These images from the ongoing series Long Distance are part of a search for an emotional and physical environment that is paradoxically familiar and remote. The figures within the photographs are both individuals and repositories for emotional projections; they are women drawn out from the world who represent a fleeting grasp of submerged experiences. They are dressed in a feminine uniformity that isn’t about enhancement, but rather joins them through color, texture and shape. The landscapes serve as sentient reflections of the women as well as of the viewer. The images should linger with the viewer as luminous memories that express the emotional self as transitory and everlasting: embraced as a known secret and concealed from all explicit understanding.
